an expedition into the frozen north
a hunting party, the number four
two eager travelers, and to each a hired guide
set out with the coming dawn
into the woods, they are leaving the world of man behind
fever of the wilderness is never far
none travel here, but they laugh at the tales of the old
learned men believe not, in spirits of desolation

across the river deeper they go
as the day fades away they see nothing
but quiet unease awakes in their hearts
that something lurks beyond the fire
and when the dark is complete
unease turns to fear
they know they trespass on the ground of the thing
that walks upon the winds
calling
howling voice in the air
into the night
screams pour from the sky

oh this great height and fiery speed
searching in vain the tracks lead to nowhere and
return to the others
now again comes the night and something approaches

awful masquerade
but the flesh is all wrong it hangs on a frame inhuman
just a trick of the eye
to lure the rest away one by one
a united defense repels the beast into the frozen night
the next day they return to the camp to find only ashes remain
