all too often the label ally is used as a defense. self-prescribed and backed up with meaningless words
it is used to access our sp-ces, to derail efforts in service of their own self-image
the label ally has become a social currency to be flaunted at the expense of the communities that they claim to serve
its meaning is empty because it is given to those who have the privilege to pick and choose which ones of us are worthy of their support
applied to those who spew racist rhetoric, failing to see the intersections of our community
worn by those who are nowhere to be found when we so desperately need them in the streets
shouted by those who could never get past the first two letters of an acronym that could never encompass the totality of what it means to be queer
our movement. our movement. yes, our movement was born from the blood of trans women of color
not those who showed up after the bricks were thrown

now more than ever we need action over words. we need community over social posturing
we need love over spite. we need accomplices not allies. we’ve never needed allies, no never needed allies
because these are our lives. these are our voices. these are our bodies
this is our blood
