so, last year
i was fortunate enough to have one of the great adventures of my life
i went and i felt weightlessness, i saw sp-ce, i saw the earth and all its unique characteristics and came back safely
and had an unexpected emotional experience
because what i saw was not just the impossibility of the dimensions of sp-ce
but how dangerous and unknown, and in the words of albert einstein, “spooky” sp-ce really is
we can’t even begin to imagine the secrets, the forces, the mysterious laws of sp-ce
and what we can more likely see clearly is earth
and all its possibilities
five billion years of evolution have brought about the fantastic beauty, cooperation, color, magic of nature
human beings are a part of that skein of nature
and yet somehow, some of us think that we are apart from it, that we are not an indigenous element, but we are
we’re as much of the earth as tectonic plates, as mountains, as snails
we’re as much a part of the earth as animals that run and hunt, birds that fly and swoop, the fish that delve into the depths
it’s all part of our earth
that short trip into sp-ce made me once again realize
with great sadness what we’re doing to our beloved planet
there’s no place for war
yes, there’s a battle going on but it’s the battle to get back to nature and its clarity
to get back to the fundamentals of living in harmony with everything else that has sp-ce on our planet
when we came back to earth, i was overwhelmed by grief
of what we’re doing to our planet
and with that knowledge, of where we fit
surely we can look at the world around us and know that we still have a chance to protect the gorgeousness that is earth
so fragile, so blue
