gather ’round and listen
i tell of my own volition
about a dream i had the other night
i found myself alive
in the year 2195
as the captain of an interplanet flight

we were bound for jupiter
and our mission to confer
with the leaders of that far off distant place
our presence there was needed
jupiter had just seceded
from the united federation of outer sp-ce

the jovians were claiming
that mars always aiming
to try and take away thеir local trade
and the martians counterеd this attack
by calling all their weapons back
and other things they’d sent as foreign aid

now, earthmen they began it
when they colonised the planet
and opened up the shipping lanes of sp-ce
they sent us out to arbitrate
this very sad and sorry state
and failure would have meant complete disgrace
a world so far away
a year or is it a day?
suddenly, the dawn is breaking
is it just a dream?

we all sat around the table
as far as we were able
listened to the tales of all concerned
the jovians put forth their case
and then the martians took their place
it was interesting, the stories that we learned

then after 27 days
we all adjourned and went our ways
each party had enough to see defeat
we seem content, that in the end
they were calling one another friend
we radioed to base, ‘mission complete’

a world so far away
a year or is it a day?
