that fateful night in august, in the year of ’73
they said farewell to loved ones they were never more to see
as they moved towards their target along that border road
their bomb was primed and ready but too early did explode

i’ll tell you where it happened — at the customs at kilclean
and please god, upon that spot there may a cross one day be seen
dedicated to those young men of the west tyrone command
who fight to raise the green flag and to free their native land
