which would mesmerise
all those who came in contact with her
so that when she smiled or laughed
it would be as if a thousand lights
had come on and, all of a sudden
the world would be a brighter place
but unfortunately she was seen as an ugly black woman
her skin wasn’t flawless
it was as if it represented all her battle scars
which didn’t look like they would fade
all the misery and pain she had gone through
could not be hidden from the world
she could not escape it and she knew it
as it was plastered all over her face

that’s how society had made her feel
with each picture that she took she felt a little more insecure. reminded by social media
that she didn’t conform to societies description of beauty. vanity, fear, desire and compet-tion
had all been aspects that consumed her
as these distortions within our own egos
had created more misery than joy
as they acclimated societies vision
of what true beauty was.
these distortions to her own ego
and the similar distortions in the egos
of others demonstrated how cloudy the gl-ss
had become through which as a society
we saw the meaning of beauty

to her beauty had become
more of precarious trace that eternity
had become to represent a sign of death
as beauty reminded her of a poisonous flower
whose appearence was colourful and attractive
but was dangerous as it led to nothingness
as the world slowly fell prey
to societies unrealistic perception of beauty
