{verse 1 (sarina)}
the name is john lauren’s
wasn’t born foreign
brought into life in 1754
wait there’s more
from south carolina
we don’t mess with whiners
eleanor ball my mother
henry laurens’ my father
fourth out of 13 child’s
sadly many died
raised in luxury
never had to worry
mother p-ssed away

my brothers and i sent to geneva for education
didn’t want to overstay
my father used slaves to raise his station
traveled to england to study law

i return home at father’s disapproval
determined to serve my country that was crucial
met and married martha manning
i never planned on returning

{verse 2 (jordan)}
yeah
polo j
straight out the closet
this goes out to john laurens
r.i.p
big trust
yeah
first things first we knew that he was reckless
just let his brilliance do the talk
and leave you breathless
he came out of every battle
with at least an injury
most importantly, victory
you’ll see the name in history
he fought in all of washington’s battles
striving to be some lone v-ssals
giving his all out on the battlefield, yeah
he knows that this will end in an ordeal
1780, he -ssisted the man, benjamin
came back to america
and joined george’s regiment
so all of the fighting sure would
enhance adrenaline
and you know ain’t none of this sh-t
is feminine
brandywine, savannah, monmouth, battle of yorktown
yeah, he was involved in all these
without a single hummer
he was striving for greatness
he would not back down
made a promise with the slaves
but sadly ended
what a bummer
can’t forget about his brothers lafayette and hamilton
they got so close you won’t believe
the amount of damage done
battles won
scramblin’
everything is, masculine
but while this is happening
let’s bring it back to the africans
before things get outta hand
let’s get this straight
started in south carolina
slave state
the slaves kept rising at a constant rate
and what’d they do?
just acc-mulate
so that’s when laurens came in
he couldn’t wait
he asked for their services
to emanc-p-te
the proposal was thorough
but the group didn’t form though
alone stood his shadow
and back to slaves they go

{verse 3 (fiona)}
the year 1782
the banks of the combahee river
it wasn’t a view…

take it back, 2 weeks before
laurens in his bed
sick to his core
doctors think malaria
but they can’t be sure…

no one could stop him when he caught the word
that the british were coming with a large force
to charlestown
to gather supplies
so he pulled himself up and started to ride
he arrived, august 26th
leaving his post
he was quite reckless

spent that night in the sheets
on repeat
barely sleeping
let’s not even start on the company he was keeping…
but 3 am rolled around
he had to go
they left the campground
headed down the road
to chehaw point

with 50 of his men
he thought he was safe
but he was ambushed on his way
redcoats in the gr-ss
like lions hunting prey

he commanded his men to attack
he had faith in his team
he wanted all the honor
he went to the extreme
too soon he was a goner

he was shot from his horse
cause he didn’t wait for reinforcements
only 27 when he died
a silly death, all for pride
