but the robber caught hold of that gallant young sailor
with a blow like a pick-axe knocked him to the ground
“oh aye,” said the sailor, “you’ve hit me quite heavy
but now i’ll endeavour to repay you in kind.”
it was then boys they stripped and like tigers they skipped
and they fought blow for blow like soldiers in the field
but the ninety-seventh meeting it was their completing
for the saucy bold robber boy the sailor was k!lled
and the sailor looked at that blood-stained old robber
“i hope you’ll forgive me, dear fellow,” says he
“but if i had just lifted one thousand bright guineas
well i’m d-mned if i’d have stopped a poor sailor like me.”
