it was a time nearly forgotten when nature had her way
with that god-awful hurricane of 1938
when the winds tore though the forest with a loud and thunderous sound
left a million feet of tall standing timber in ruins on the ground

with horses and with oxen they pulled those twisted logs
from every nook and cranny to the shores of turkey pond
they built a mighty sawmill of iron, steel and wood
bound and determined to salvage what they could

those men had sawdust in their blood
