never underestimate the power of planting a seed in a fertile mind
i don’t believe that a small group of people can change the world
because that would lend legitimacy to the idea that an even smaller group already owns it
and as easy as it would be to place the blame for all the horrid ongoings in this universe at the feet of some shrouded cabal of evil men with hidden faces who claim sole ownership of all mighty monolithic marionettes
it appears to me that there is always a considerable margin of error between our own perceptions and reality
perceptions can fill us in to the notion that there are kings, prime ministers, ceos or at least someone or some thing with authority
when ultimately, we are nothing but slightly evolved primates desperately clinging onto an incomprehensibly large ball of rock and water rocketing with no particular direction through an even more incomprehensibly vast sp-ce, governed by laws we have only the vaguest understanding of but can certainly not perceive in any tangible way for as far as we can tell, absolutely no reason
if you’re not somewhere on the spectrum between confused and deranged, then you’re not fully understanding the implications of the human condition
the artist comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable and in this day and age, the former is a near insurmountable task, the latter incredibly easy
so the question becomes how to strike a balance between the two
how to hold the prospects of absolute fear and unconditional love with an equal weight and be able to use either to make a point
for example, this planet is 4.6 billion years old, let’s guild that to 46 years
we’ve been here for 4 hours on an industrial revolution began one minute ago
in that time, we have destroyed more than 50 percent of the world’s forests, this is not sustainable
simultaneously, in the last month, we’ve created a quartz coin that can store 360 terabytes of data for 14 billion years, verified the existence of gravitational waves, successfully delivered medicine to the stomach of a living organism using nano-bots and we have used gene-editing software to repair a genetic mutation that caused blindness
the future of our species lies on a knife edge
and it’s in the best interest of any establishment to keep the general population unaware of their power
and while many think that this is done through m-ss mind-control, orwellian tele-screens flew right in the water, chemtrails in the sky, shape-shifting pedophile monarch lizards and illuminati-themed music videos, i’m afraid control is achieved through something far more simple and far more sinister
you see, contrary to popular belief, multi-tasking doesn’t exist
the human mind can only handle a certain amount of information
and attention paid to one thing creates an unintentional blindness to another
and we now create more data in a day than we have created from the beginning of history until 2003
the key to power rests not in the manipulation of the people but in their confusion
we live in a world where there are multiple clandestine military operations taking place in a myriad of locations across this globe by not one but many empires
we’re not sure who our enemies are anymore, their locations or even their reasoning
we grow more and more anxiously aware of our physical wellbeing even though less than a hundred years ago, we used to treat open wounds with sugar
we’re sent mixed signals about refugees stealing our jobs, then told to mourn them when they wash up on our sh0r-s, then bang for their blood when people completely unrelated to them shoot up a rock concert in a neocolonial country that still forces former colonies to pay tax to them to compensate them for their loss of property and pretend as if there’s no precedence for such a tax then…
isn’t it all getting too much?
well, just move along and make another purchase then
our minds are echo chambers, and even the slightest pieces of information can reverberate far more than we antic-p-te them to
you ever get a song you hate stuck in your head?
and so it’s no wonder that the perfect method of control is not to restrict information, it’s to f-cking flood people with it
when your facebook feed is full of the absurd and the obscene, the surreal and the downright insane, it’s pretty simple for something as innocuous as money to evade the skeptical gaze
john adams, the second us president, once said that there are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation, one is by the sword and the other is by debt
and the money in our pockets is exactly that, debt, someone else’s debt to be sure
and the value that it holds is not physical, it can’t be eaten, injected as medicine or used to build roads, it’s purely psychological and social
it’s an idea, an idea that would collapse the very moment that enough people decide it has no worth
money is a sigil, the manifestation of the human desire to subjugate and on a deeper level for control, for authority, for a deep seeded hope that the world isn’t born completely out of chaos
where am i going with this?
well, artists in this society are often looked upon as self-indulgent, pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, megalomaniacal b-st-rds, wrapped up in some ephemeral sensation that doesn’t matter
and what a foolish mistake to make
because you see, when the media that you watch, the political standpoints you do or do not affiliate with, the m-ss moral comp-ss given to you, the corporate logos branded on all the products you consume and the paper currency printed, exchanged and trickled down for you to purchase those products, when the economic system, the very bedrock of our civilization exists purely in the realm of ideas alone, then who better, who better to challenge and oppose it than the alchemists of thought, the inventors, creators, designers and dreamers?
it appears to me that the artists have two choices: we either light a candle, or we complain about the darkness
