letra de the kid on the moon - peter avalos

[intro]
teenage years are a strange time in life. most kids’ parents
expect them to have their next 15 years to be planned out

by grade 11, while they still need their mom to pack them lunch. right after leaving middle school i was smacked in the back of

the head with reality. the days of slacking in school and being
a kid are over. i was bombarded with sports, schoolwork and

expectations. i wanted to prove to my parents that i could manage all of these things with ap classes; famous last words

[chorus]
the beginning of freshman year i seemed hopeless. i was
up until 12 every night studying for pre-ap bio and ap

human geo to still be receiving b’s and high c’s on test
days. nothing was working and i seemed hopeless. one

night i decided to put on some music to study to. i had
always had a passion for music(not that i could ever play an

instrument. i could barely play the recorder in 3rd grade)
the music i would listen to at the time i would now call
“mindless rap”. this is the type of music that requires zero attention to enjoy. every song in this genre deals with many

deep issues such as “money and hoes.” now, freshman me
had no idea what i was listening to. it was only until that

night that my playlist ran out of songs. after a playlist ends
it will play a randomly generated recommended song

this song happened to be “in my dreams (cudder anthem)”. i looked over at my computer a few feet away from me and the

artist read “kid cudi” on “the man on the moon”. who the h-ll is kid cudi? this guy seemed like a total bum to me. i was too lazy

to go and change the song so i left it on. little did i know
that the decision i just made would change my entire life

[bridge]
that night i listened to the whole album start to finish. it was amazing. the album opener is a slow, calm, and melodious tune

in which kid cudi welcomes us to his dreams. as we enter
his dream world, we soon learn that it’s a happy place — in

his dreams, everything is alright and cudi is at perfect peace
the last song is a beautiful closer. on my first listen, i was like
this is the credit roller. like this has to be, like, the last scene
on the album. it’s just like concluding everything, it’s happy

it’s uplifting, and it just brings such great energy out. it’s all about being hopeful for a new day, you’re in a positive vibe, and

through it all you understand cudi is trying to say “whatever
they gonna judge me anyway”. all this time i was sitting here

and wondering about what people think of me, it’s like it’s unavoidable. it’s like whatever, just live your life and move in a positive light. that’s what this song is, you know?

[chorus]
i started taking these ideas and applying them to myself
earlier, i mentioned sports in one of the three pressures

i would deal with last year. i am a tennis player and if
you know anything about tennis you know it is a confidence

destroying, pressure pushing game. i would often get on
the court and get super tense and angry. i had absolutely no

confidence and pressure points would drive me into the
dirt. without any confidence, you have no game. after i
started using what cudi says in “the man on the moon”, tennis and school started looking up for me. i was more confident

on the court and way less stressed. i had no care for what others thought and started focusing on myself. i also started

trusting myself more on test days. i started going with my gut and my grades raised exponentially, as well as my tennis performance

[outro]
kid cudi has served as a guide to me; a sonic mentor, if you
will. i think his impact stems from his willingness to express

the pain and emotion he’s felt in life. this is rare in any field, let alone in a genre often defined by machismo. for the past

decade, kid cudi has gifted us with a plethora of music
this year will definitely be his resurgence. i am excited to see

what he’ll bring to the table with his new album “man on the moon 3”. he deserves the world-especially for being my full time therapist throughout last year
