deep in the land there is a place where oat is scarce
but you don’t seem to starve—do you?
inside your home a treasure trove you had to hide
and not tell anyone—did you?
when you were asked for help
you shared some of the bread
which in exchange then started to expand
at twice the rate
suddenly overnight
it’s filling up your house
you better eat or soon enough
it will be flooding town
outside your home the city moans as hunger strikes
they all could use a bite—could you?
soon they will curse the man that fed them with a share
of what would cause their end—that’s you
the promise of a home
where harvesting is unknown
the fantasy of living well
off someone else’s pain
the neverending tale
of evergrowing bread
the everlasting need
for the best secrets to be kept
so as it grows away
have a laugh and take a breath
nervously staring at
the growing crops
what’s the lesson to be learnt
when the profit that you make
stems from the leftovers
of what you’ve had?
