the long, abundant grasses
where the bugs go to breed
and the air is stuck in temporal dusk

skin still hot, i am more than sticky
reptilian flesh on a beetle’s polished back
i lack the spine of man and reflect the sky her hands bore

my skin is still hot, i have learned to boil the waters before i drink;
purge its unholy filth before it yearns to k!ll me first;
water is clear only when one is looking
in my lungs, water feels too blue to be clear;
transparent belongs only to the air and rain that fills it so
may thе burns that weld my veins to my metallic back nеver heal

the white winds of night
bring an unwelcome chill to my surface
i remember the blue existing only in memory

place a muzzle around my swollen lips
and i will learn to speak with my eyes —
i want to be domesticated

strung up and dyed all the blues of your language
make me more man than my homegrown organs
are capable of on their own — i am but an ant in the presence of
god

let my arms become my legs and teach me how to walk on just two
teach me the way the singing of crickets
can break apart the yellow from the trees and make my memory so deeply flawed

teach me to exist in the realm of nature
and i shall teach man to walk on walls
the way my kind may crawl upon their concrete structures

whispers in the dark, the moon may make the green grow blue
and the purples grow black —
any white in the world may hold its shape come night or day
bleach can’t k!ll the sky anymore than a soft stomp may break my back
i can drown all the same as the birds and the bees
the water k!lls me more than the air, transparency is natural, blue
is poison

k!ll the beetles and make peace with the reptiles
let me live among the green, i promise to hide
