letra de postcard #30 - jens lekman
july 27th, 2015
in bremen, germany
i was booked to play a wedding
the morning after a text alerts me to the canceling
of my flight and the resulting rescheduling
from the morning to later in the evening
and i lay there in bed, thinking of how to spend a day
and then i heard church bells ringing through the morning
calling to the sunday service from the cathedral and the other churches
and i follow that sound to st. peter’s cathedral
sat down in the pew with the bremen people
and just listened
i didn’t understand a word a priest was saying
my high school german could use some serious practicing
but just to sit there and hear the church organ
echo through a summer morning
to feel tiny for a little while, to look up to the ceiling
like you’d look at a starried sky
to ask that old question: where did we come from and where are we going?
the sadness of everything, the joy of everything
