today i learned to wet shave
even at my age and i ain’t ashamed
just been catching up on all the things you would’ve changed
kinda hate the fact that i can’t see your face
kinda hate the fact that this is how i spend my days
sharing my thoughts to a pillow and a pen to page
i heard a whisper in the wind but couldn’t catch a name
but d-mn the thought that just goes against the grain

all i see is all that’s left
like this box and chest and the garms that you dressed
in your sundays best and that gown that you laid in, when they laid you down to rest
i can’t rest
for those six years i knew you dad i still feel blessed

but i can’t help but sit and think that i’ve missed out on so much
i’ve tried to roll sixes, i ain’t seen no luck
see i had to roll big from age six
cause i missed what all the others find bliss
like a kiss and a hug of a fathers touch
i learned to tie my ties through white lies of those i thought i could trust
learnt to deal with loss before i could run
i learnt that there’s growth in heartache
and hope in lost faith
and loving myself when nearly no one showed none
it ain’t fun
its kinda dumb when you think about it
cause when you need it most is when you really sit and doubt it
but that’s just life, i guess

but things were so much different then
and it weren’t a case of why, it was just a case of when
but i placed your role in the safe hands of family and friends
just so i could feel like i had my father again
but you never left
in fact, you’re probably right here
whispering in my ear all those words i wanna hear
like “son, i’m so proud of you
so, keep doing what you do

shed those tears, there’s no fear in feeling blue

we build up, we regret this

but i got so many questions
so, can i spend a sec in heaven?
over a pint we never shared, or a match we never shared
or a laugh we never shared, or a chat we never shared
see i don’t need a couple days, dad i just need a couple seconds

sit with mum and em and reminisce on all of the times
this is the hardest verse i’ve ever had to write
