just awoke, and i’m parched with thirst
head aching as if it could burst
fell from chamber somewhere up above:
a queen’s wrath at unrequited love
torches burning somewhere in the gloom
dripping of water echoes through the room
i dizzily stagger to my feet
knowing not what terrors i’ll meet
the vaults ahead ring to my step
iron-ribbed doors to the right and left
i force one open, a chilling blast
-ssails my senses, my heart beats fast
a room of bones and armor cast down
i turn away, and the hall i go down
another door i try but what do i find?
a heap of ancient scrolls eroded by time
will the light i ever see again?
terror would take away my breath
is this the end? i long to know:
has fate cast me to my death?
am i doomed to an early death?
trapped in the dungeon i am left
now the hall slopes down to parts unknown
the stones on either wall are damp and cold
i thought i heard a rustling far ahead
but i go farther, am filled with dread
the hall opens in a stone courtyard
a broken well in the midst thereof
a loathsome monster scuttles out of sight
a lone torch burns, casting feeble light
i find a pair of doors, but one is locked
the other opens, revealing stairs
that go down into the depths of h-ll?
perhaps they do

i grab the torch and take my chance

it seems forever until the stairs end
when they stop i see a light not far
ahead

to it i go — but oh no:
fire-pits in a hideous place
a maze of dungeons that has no end
and evil dwarves scurrying in the gloom
to bring a dragon to my doom
chains rattle as i move away
back toward the stairs i make my way
but i feel the fire from its breath
is this the end? i long to know:
am i doomed to an early death?
has fate cast me to my death?
trapped in the dungeon i am left
