in the dark of the collective mind
i approached a mirror and looked behind
gnarled hands and steely eyes
the oldest man showed me what lies ahead
he kissed my face and this is what he said:

“truth lies with a woman
in the city made of stone
faith flies like a seagull
with a gizzard full of bones
baby cries – where is mama?
and the teardrops fill the sky
oh why is it rainin’?
’cause life sucks then you die!”

i said, “that’s bullsh-t, man.”
then he smacked me with his cane
he said, “precisely! and the path to truth is pain
you were born to be free
release the reins and f-ckin’ ride
you will never truly be until you’ve died.”

if you “just say no” to all you know
you will fall below where the funk can grow
and if you pray for an easy fall
you will land in a giant ball of dung
and in that moment enlightenment will come
truth lies with a woman
