bap, bap, bap! gunshots fire from outside again. dude 1 turns. the boy runs out the back of the sliding doors. he was certain he was going to die today, he runs outside to the pool, but it didn’t feel like today. he read that online somewhere that it is impossible to drown yourself

the boy throws open the door, inside there is graffiti

its sprawled over the wall. it’s scratched in the shelves. a photograph lies on the floor crumpled. the boy picks it up
there is a woman in a pink tracksuit and a man on the beach. it is his father, he turns it over and in his mother’s handwriting on the back of the photograph it says “ros co s wetsuit.” some of the letters had worn away
