they regulate the paths of their writing

but you can’t be any fool just in school
gotta be versatile with the mind, earn your key

it was a clear black night, a clear white moon
little tyson in his room, trying to assume
a position in his essay, and he was in doom
rolling in his seat, chillin all alone
just hit the university of the s to the b
on a mission trying to craft some writing energy
seen many writers and peers struggle, ain’t no need to tweak
all of them know the difficulties of the 123

so he took a swervе to his writing, “let’s do it”
some thoughts told him to invent, mеss up one time so screw it
he jumped out his chair, and said “what’s next?”
some thoughts started circulating so he said these steps

since i’m stuck in my writing, i’ll just glide and swerve
through another person’s work, just straight observe
gotta use directed reading and then learn some tricks
strategies for argument building and structure for my texts

reading with a purpose, engaging myself
i can’t believe this improves a writer’s depth
i now got intention, and organization of text
i looked at the wall said “d-mn what’s next”

i started freewriting and my words are all around
exploring with my ideas, going pound for pound
turning on these gears before they start to go south
no grammar or coherence, i’m just writing stuff down
i got my thoughts in my head, i’m going to town
i can’t believe, this is all going down
with these new wings i can fly, let me contemplate
let’s focus on the freewrite and then elaborate

sixteen connections and one main idea
little tyson focused his freewrite, might as well name him rhea
now we ready and flowing, it’s a piece of cake
before the critical freewrite it’s time for a break

i laid all my thoughts down, i turned to my writer mode
now engaged with my writing, new perspectives they showed
if you want new angles, reflect and observe
using the method of critical freewriting produces new writing curves

now tyson has his ideas, and that’s a known fact
it’s time to start his outline to get him on track
bullet after bullet, now it’s on
flexible outlining and me, where’s the pot for us peas

just like i thought, now i knew the spots
i finished filling in the blanks
now i’ma draw a picture
using the thing that makes planks
a tree with branches looking s-xy as h-ll
i said “ooo i like this size”
filled the branches with points, the trunk as the central site
dang this is niceee

i can visualize my ideas, and its going real swell

the next step is to socialize and tell (hold l)

i’m speaking, while calling my friend laura
speaking out your thoughts, i swear, it helps ya
think, on a whole new level
you’re helping out yourself but also someone else, it’s special

highlight, underline, it creates the recipe
writing, where trial and error is great
and to be great requires trial and error

now that you know what tyson knows
you can go and try this
college is a new era
