[intro]
it was fifth grade when the officer visited.
with a lion shirt and sheriff badge, he was looking legitimate.
“hi, i’m from d.a.r.e., and here’s what’s prohibited:
‘perkys’ and ‘mollies’ that make you dim-witted, and
if someone ever offers you a little try,
‘just say no’. they’re trying to get you high.”

[verse 1]
“i know refusing makes you feel ostracized.
but our program keeps you safe, and we tossed aside
the negative stigmas, so now it’s cool to say no.
you’re most popular when you don’t go with the flow.
you might see your friends popping pills and try to emulate them.
they’re a bad influence, d.a.r.e. will help you isolate them.”

[verse 2]
“you’re young and you’re learning what’s right and wrong.
we’ll bring d.a.r.e. in now, so we don’t prolong
an anti-drug education. the science is strong
that your values are built when your life is at dawn.”
then officer dave went back to the police station
saying the d.a.r.e. program was the drug salvation.

[verse 3]
but the consensus of data reveals no correlation.
i continue to abuse even after education.
maybe it’s because the program only lasts a month.
is that even enough time to confront
the drug epidemic? i thought what i fund
is an anti-drug program, not a publicity stunt.
when they waltz in my school and the parents are relieved,
thinking that the program gives them a permanent reprieve
from responsibly warning me about drugs. they believe
four, short weeks of d.a.r.e. will succeed.
but they ran out of time to warn me of the problems, what’s the point?
after eight years, i ignore their words for a joint.

[hook]
d-a-r-e, what does that spell?
d.a.r.e. ain’t really educational.
d-a-r-e, can’t you tell?
it’s time to bid d.a.r.e. farewell.

[verse 4]
so, the newest reports portray d.a.r.e. as adverse.
after going through the program, i decide to immerse
in the pills and the bottles they said would be a curse.
“the program made me curious,” i converse.
it’s plausible when the police tell me to “stop it”,
it makes me feel rebellious and drives me to top it.
so i pull out a little pill and then i pop it.
the satisfaction of defiance is my profit.

[verse 5]
if someone ever offered me something to blow,
the officer told me to “just say no”.
i’d probably say no to someone i didn’t know,
but i couldn’t say no to my best friend moe.
i’m chilling with my friends and they p-ss some weed around.
i tell them what dave told me and all i see is frowns.
“well, the rest of us are getting high” is the only sound.
i don’t want to feel left out, i guess i’ll blow an ounce.
