letra de empire - tombstone da deadman
[intro]
can you say why america is the greatest country in the world?
it’s not the greatest country in the world, professor, that’s my answer
just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day
there are some things you should know, and one of them is:
there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we’re the greatest country in the world
we’re 7th in literacy, 27th in math
22nd in science, 49th in life expectancy
178th in infant mortality, 3rd in median household income
number 4 in labor force, and number 4 in exports
we lead the world in only three categories:
number of incarcerated citizens per capita
number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending;
where we spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined
twenty-five of whom are allies
now none of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student
but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt a member of the worst-period-generation-period-ever-period
so when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world
i don’t know what the f-ck you’re talking about!
[verse 1]
i wonder if the romans saw their empire declining
was the ones that said it’s coming ridiculed accused of lying
called malcontents that only specialize in whining and
losers who were mad at the citizens that was climbing
is this the way they rationalized a country that’s crumbling
with the flag waving nationalistic chest thumping and
did they throw parades to say that they were number one
instead of fighting the malaise that gave a hint that they were done
were they discussin’ corruption of people and authorities
pulled too thin to really cope with ever growing enemies
unemployment rampant with a failing infrastructure
see i wonder if these things became the way that they went under
and it’s hard for me to see this shit and just ignore the parallels
while everybody parties hard and motto being “what the h-ll”
will others see the trend before it’s too late
or will the realization come with barbarians at the gate
[chorus](x2)
don’t get mad at me cause i’m the one that’s yelling fire
denial is the gasoline that keeps the flames higher
ignore it if you wanna be a slave to your desire
but this is what it looks like at the death of empires
[verse 2]
three hundred million americans are mostly seen as arrogant
the globe could be on fire and they would scarcely be aware of it
at least that’s the impression the rest of the world is given
but what’s truly nauseating is i can not argue with them
too many caught up in first world problems inside their first world bubble
their comfort level blinds their minds to the trouble
that their government will get into and do it in our names
cause n-body’s held responsible, so they just took the reins
how could 90% of americans want gun control
universal background checks and they just say no
like f-ck how you feel cause we don’t have to listen
but the nsa will monitor the emails you have written
to see crimes that you’re admitting
like confessions you’re submitting
and in the process of this f-ckery the constitution ripping
oh by the way you’re paying us to disregard your problems
it’s ironic that problem’s us so no-one else will solve them
[chorus](x2)
don’t get mad at me cause i’m the one that’s yelling fire
denial is the gasoline that keeps the flames higher
ignore it if you wanna be a slave to your desire
but this is what it looks like at the death of empires
[verse 3]
nowadays these conspiracies are easy to believe
because the collective consciousness perceives the government deceives
and no matter how just ridiculous a lot of them will seem
the population will spread them around with statuses and memes
there’s a general disgust about the things that they don’t trust
when the media ain’t leading some topics they won’t touch
but our attention spans diverted we got a.d.d
while those in power seek to redefine what liberty means
yo the people on the top give could a cr-p about the bottom
all the access, all the money, all the resources they got them
and you part your lips to talk about one man one vote
they laughing at you drinking champagne on their luxury boat
cause every empire ever existed has fallen to dust
and it’s kind of ludicrous to think that the exception is us
but laugh me off and watch us march down that exact same road
and years from now this empire will be another story told
[chorus](x3)
don’t get mad at me cause i’m the one that’s yelling fire
denial is the gasoline that keeps the flames higher
ignore it if you wanna be a slave to your desire
but this is what it looks like at the death of empires
