letra de flowers on the wall (at san quentin) - the statler brothers
[intro: hugh cherry & lew dewitt]
right now i’d like to introduce to you four young men who every once in a while a group or an individual comes along in our profession, goes to the top and remains right there. this happened to these four youngsters, and i know i’m speaking for my friend john cash when we say that, mighty proud to have ’em a big part of the johnny cash show. you know ’em, and let’s make ’em welcome, the statler brothers, harold, lou, don and phil, the statlers!
thank you very much. we’re glad to see all of you tonight. we dressеd up all alike, i see y’all dressed alikе too. but we wanna, we hope you’re gonna enjoy the show. we do want to tell you a little something before we go anything further. we will be filming some of the show tonight and we’ll also be recording some of it. just like that, and so, uh, any kind of noise that you wanna make it’ll be just, be yourself, be at home, and, uh, we wanna do a few songs we hope you like, we’re gonna get on with the show, the carter family’s yet to come out, and of course johnny cash we’ll be out and that’s when the filming and recording starts. we wanna do one song and then we’ll get off and get things going
[verse 1]
i keep hearing you’re concerned about my happiness
but all the thought you’re giving me is conscience, i guess
if i were walking in your shoes, i wouldn’t worry none
while you and your friends are worrying about me
i’m having lots of fun
[chorus]
counting flowers on the wall, that don’t bother me at all
playing solitaire ’til dawn with a deck of fifty one
smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo
now don’t tell me i’ve nothing to do
[verse 2]
last night i dressed in tails, pretended i was on the town
as long as i can dream, it’s hard to slow this swinger down
so, please don’t give a thought to me, i’m really doing fine
you can always find me here and having quite a time
[chorus]
counting flowers on the wall, that don’t bother me at all
playing solitaire ’til dawn with a deck of fifty one
smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo
now don’t tell me i’ve nothing to do
[verse 3]
it’s good to see you, i must go, i know i look a fright
anyway, my eyes are not accustomed to this light
and my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
so, i must go back to my room and make my day complete
[chorus]
counting flowers on the wall, that don’t bother me at all
playing solitaire ’til dawn with a deck of fifty one
smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo
now don’t tell me i’ve nothing to do
don’t tell me i’ve nothing to do
[outro]
don’t tell me i’ve nothing to do
woah-hey, thank you!
thank you very much, thank you
thank you very much, we do appreciate it
