you ever wonder about how like
the police can basically stop you for whatever reason
like this one time i was looking on quora about how
if you flip off a cop
they like
don’t have any actual reason to stop you

but they will and they admit it
i was looking at this quora question where it was like
“can you flip off a police officer?” or “is that allowed?”
and it’s like yeah obviously first amendment rights
but all the answers to that quora question were like
police officers saying

“we can’t technically pull you over for it
but we’ll find a reason to…”
like wink wink nudge nudge sh-t
like hey aren’t you basically saying you could pull over anybody anytime
for any reason at that point?

(some other person speaking)

oh yeah absolutely i mean
we started out in 2001 with 9/11
the security state we started kicking into overdrive
and all that stuff it was really supposed to be temporary
for instance
liquid bans on airplanes
how you’re supposed to put all your sh-t in a plastic bag
that was all supposed to go away after a couple years
but it’s still happening
it’s not even funny
it’s been 20 years and it’s still going on
so when are you gonna go back to normal?
it’s the same reason- that’s the same kinda stuff
that lets the cops pull you over for any reason they want
it’s the same security culture

it’s the same police state
and it’s because, because imagined enemies
as long as it’s always something out there
something that could get you something hypothetically
well then it’s always justifiable to have more and more cops
and more and more cameras
and more and more people… pointing guns… at you
