a plea for civility
a stunning facility for pettiness
if your pride’s intact
could you at least not act like my
arch-nemesis for one second?
keep your close friends close
keep your sycophants closer
you never lose your composure
or hear a reb-ttal to a plan as subtle as a salt lick
and as st-rdy as a matchstick
the oldest number in repertoire
i’m only trying to find out
how hard your feelings are
well?

i’d welcome a shouting match
a blow to the kidneys, an intervention
a federal case, some big public disgrace
like your drink in my face
just to break the tension
we all make mistakes when we’re stupid and 25
some worse than others
and some we regret for the rest of our natural lives
