i couldn’t feel too sore about because it was true and it was me who

i worked hard through the winter in a haze of dope and speed
the spring came around and i put down the tools and i waved goodbye to the machines
and i walked by the light of the moon
i didn’t know where i was going but i knew i’d gеt there soon
i headеd south, maybe i’d get to casablanca
where i could warm up my bones and forget about my girl and that banker
i ended up in the south coast of france, living in a tent
hanging out with street rats and hobos; you know the bottom two percent
scratching out a living from playing songs on the streets
i hooked up with a trumpet and bass player, we called ourselves the deadbeats
we played all through the summer, made enough for dope and beer. then the weather got cold and the girls disappeared so i said “boys, maybe i’ll see you next year,”
and i walked by the light of the moon, i didn’t know where i was going but i knew i’d get there soon
i headed north, maybe i’d go to amsterdam where the drugs were cheap and i could work out a winter plan, stan
i spent six months in amsterdam though i’ve only vague recollections. i think i played in some bars and lived with a hooker with a good heart and such good intentions
in april she left with a bag full of money, she was building a house in sweden
so i picked up my things, bought half a key of weed and i thought, man i’m enjoying the freedom
and i walked by the light of the moon, i didn’t know where i was going but i knew i’d get there soon
i headed east, maybe i’d get to berlin
seems like the kind of place i could find
a lot of trouble to get in
