first of all, being alive is a blessing unto itself

so many other futures- like dr. strange, how different they all spell
had life thrown different laterals, where would i be? i think n0body could tell

and i got a musical talent bestowed unto me by god himself
i got a vibrant school, and tasty food on the table
i’m in with the cool kids, and my demand is stable

“can you rap like me?” over a thousand views- now that’s what i enjoy!
i’ve heard life’s a double-edged sword that can cut both ways
but right now all i see is the blessings that come with every day
and i thank god, for it has been his hand that has guided me
and kept me from going astray for all of my days
because with every new day comes another new blessing
and with every new breath comes another new message
of gratitude, ‘cause i know this don’t always happen
because life can be both a blessing and a curse
but no matter the circumstances, it is a gift from heaven

but what can i say? considering the stuff i’ve had to bear
it’s a wonder how my psyche hasn’t collapsed from all of the wear
see, i come from a place where even the angels fear to tread
where screams from the past still echo in my head
where all of the bad things outweigh all of the good
and where i have to hide my feelings if i want to be cool with my group
i come from abandonment, and i come from abuse
i come from rejection, and i come from the accused
i come from a world where fathers don’t even care for their children
where the world is a hateful place, and even god is a deist (d-mn!)
and the funny thing about this is that it’s your world too
but you’ve been given a better fare, while i’ve only got the noose
everything you’ve been given has been allowed to grow, while mine’s only allowed to choke
so before you throw shade at your fellow man, at least thank god for what you own
for, in god’s creation, we each got a different lot
some are leaders like abraham, while others just stay with the flock
but there is one truth overall, that sometimes a blessing can carry a curse
so let us stop to contemplate this gift from heaven called life
