i always had a problem with encores, i never knew quite what to do, and then i remembered reading somewhere then, back in the early days, or the old days of vaudeville. they used to do what they called a flag waver
now, a flag waver was a number which they would do at the end of a show when they would fill the stage with flags, and all the girls would be draped and wearing flags, and then they would sing some patriotic song like “god bless america,” and no matter how bad the show had been up to that point, the audience would leap to its feet and cheer, and all the rest of it, and that was a flag waver, so i thought “well that’s a good idea,” and so i stole some music from john philip sousa. who else? and i came up with a sort of a flag waver of my own. i say sort of a (?) well, you get the idea
