it punishes the evil and rewards the good
meeting equal justice to the high and low
and it thrills me so
that it’s mine, although
no one can ever know

writing on a deadline can be very hard
choosing what to run with and what to discard
there are times i don’t know where the plot will go
yet the words tonight reach a newfound height
of poetry, even though
no onе will ever know
if this work survives
by somе quirk, survives
stories told and retold through the ages
what a lark to think
of those distant lives
sailing on the rhythm of these pages

this story has problems from the very start
and right here in the middle is where it falls apart
it loses the humanity, the tone and flow
it’s a hopeless mess
i should toss
