overhead, the maple drop
lays motionless above the plates
surrounded by the dinner forks
and b-tter knives and plastic sporks
the eggo of a distant meal
was calling me into this place
where everything you see is syrupy

and then i see, to my surprise
my waffle’s burnt along the sides
i look the waitress in the eyes
and then i scream, “go make it right!”

waiting patient in my seat
i watch the other people eat
and no one else complains, how can that be?
i get my plate, lo and behold
it’s one degree too cold
i guess she’s stupid, so i say it slow

this waffle is a huge disgrace
it’s nowhere near the perfect size
this breakfast needs to be revised
before it flies into your face

the waitress brings a plate to me
exhaustion in her eyes
it has to be about the 18th time
i go impatient with the way they haven’t made my breakfast right
it’s midnight now and i’ve been here since morning
but this time it’s a bit askew
and no one really has a clue
and so i scream “no tip for you!”
and throw the plate across the room
