letra de crony my ass - navid jamshidi
i’ve seen the movies, i’ve heard the songs
it’s not like i’ve been in a cave too long
the movies suck, and the music’s a scam
who’s to blame? let’s find the man
let me list out the problems first
then dig through the roots of this capital curse
at some point, we’ve all been without a home
you know that pain when you feel alone
sure, as a child, you asked your dad
“who owns this land? who made this mad?”
they said it’s the government’s, or some rich guy’s prize
but you’ve seen fences dividing the skies
for rеal, who owns the dirt and the ground?
can a patch of earth rеally be bound?
oh yeah, it can, in this crazy world
we call it capitalism, where wealth’s unfurled
the rich keep stacking, the poor get crumbs
wine for some, while the rest stay numb
it’s capitalism, it’s all the same
if you feel the pain, you gotta break the chain
you wanna write? sure, but write what sells
if you write what’s inside, you’ll ring poverty’s bells
you wanna film? sure, but film what they like
or starve while your dreams take a long, hard hike
some dude makes millions, not lifting a hand
while the worker just struggles to make a stand
resources are scarce, as sankara taught
a choice between luxury or clean water for all
n0body dies from a lack of booze
but no water? that’s a life to lose
a guy kicking b-lls gets billions in gold
while a worker’s left out, cold and old
if we’ve got 100 breads and one takes 70
what’s left for the others? starvation’s destiny
that’s capitalism, don’t you see?
greed disguised as opportunity
they know it’s broken, so they rebrand the game
crony capitalism—it’s all the same
they say the wealthy pay their share
but where’s the tax when hunger’s everywhere?
a man with 80 hotels and cars to spare
earns millions yearly—how’s that fair?
they say marxism fails, but i’ve got a thought:
how’s capitalism worked with the lives it’s cost?
millions dead, and they’re dying still
while people consume this mindless swill
trash goes viral, the wise ignored
basic needs denied, as the rich h–rd more
everyone deserves a place to rest
a life without fear, a chance at the best
food, water, and shelter—it’s not much to ask
but in this system, it’s a herculean task
