(scene)

ext: the antoninus villa – outside balcony – night

marcus is staring off into the distance, domitia walks out to speak with him. he notices she is there and begins to speak

marcus:
look around at the movement of stars as if you’re moving with them. look at how they constantly change into each other. thoughts like these will remove any resistance to change in your life because nature is always changing and to remain goes against nature

domitia:
it’s beautiful…well spoken (she pauses) your meditations seem to be going well. (taking a deep breath, she begins speaking again)
this city, it is imperfect, like us and i am thankful to the gods for that

marcus:
why?

domitia:
imperfections- (she stops and changes her train of thought)
imperfections allow us to connect to those who need connection, those who are in need emotionally, spiritually, and materially. (pause) owning the factory you see many great things built, the pantheon and even the coliseum you spoke in but i step back and see people getting caught in am-ssing and building something great, we forget to build ourselves and each other up…numbing the soul from feeling is only numbing your self of life, without life you are dead

marcus:
regardless, people either like me or don’t there is no grey

domitia:
(re-ssuring)
there is no grey because you are made of many colors, a book to be studied many times not just read once. if love is something you seek, remove everything hindering it from within. anything else (she pauses briefly) is them

marcus:
(changing the subject) mom, your palla looks beautiful –

marcus hears and sees a noise in the distance

marcus (cont’d): did you see that?

domitia:
what?

marcus:
never mind…

domitia:
your brother and sister are going out, you should go. i know you’re into your philosophy but an innocent man is rarely serious and serious innocent
