summary of the review
good -ss intro (feat. bj the chicago kid, lili k., kiara lanier, peter cottontale, & will for the o’mys)
i’m not going to lie, at first, i was not feeling the intro. i could bop my head to it, but i wasn’t listening like that. this went on until a few weeks before midterms. i was just in this dancing mood, and when i heard the second verse i had to rewind this whole mixtape to listen to it again
chance, all i want to know is how in the world did you get all of these chicago singers on this song without confusion of who you want to do what. was it a all in one studio thing or was it just emails coming from managers everywhere?
pusha man (feat. nate fox & lili k.)
that first line was like a bullet in the back of my head. probably one of the most accessible songs that chance has on this project for anyone who hasn’t listened to him before. i really wish that the song was longer than it is
like everyone else, when the silence came i was like…wtf tho? however, i’m a lot more patient than kinge was, so i didn’t need to see chance’s tweet to hear paranoia…
paranoia
i figured out how to igh when i heard this song. the whole song is just a testimony to chance’s lyricism cause that second verse was trippy. with those faint background vocals to help, i could really feel that chance is scared. not only for himself, but for his family and friends and for the people of his city
cocoa b-tter kisses (feat. twista & vic mensa)
this was a very fitting song for me now really. even though i love chance on the song, this song shined more from it’s features. vic did his motha lovin thang on this song but…… twista tho
juice
number 4 on my top 10 songs of 2013. before the mixtape came out, i played the video everyday in my computer cl-ss. when i first heard it, i was just fascinated with chance’s flow. i’d love to call it one of kind, so if anyone has someone else with a delivery like this (that is not vic mensa) then please annotate this sentence with a song link from that person
hey chance, what’s your favorite juice? i myself prefer drink
lost (feat. noname gypsy)
i applaud noname gypsy, that last line hit me hard. at the time, i was just in my drake, and actually wondering if a certain girl really thought i loved her or if she thought i was using her for box, but i digress
chance the an unwavering talent to convey an emotion, and he picks his features fairly well, but i can’t see anyone else but noname on here. lost is extremely impressive for being one of the first love songs by chano himself
everybody’s something (feat. bj the chicago kid & saba)
there is no question about it that this is my favorite chance song period. i’ll say it before and i’ll say it again, this song is the epitome of chance’s lyricism. the beat was phenomenal, and that saba verse tho?
i really wish i had more stuff that i could say about this song and the others before this, but you know when you like something so much that it’s just impossible to put it in to words. that’s how i feel. dammit i just like it!
interlude (that’s love)
now at first, this is where i felt that the mixtape start to decline. it’s not that the music got bad, i just thought that the mixtape climaxed at everybody’s something. however, as i began to listen to this, and start to love chance’s sing alot more, this song started rising on my most played songs list
for those who say that chance can’t sing, and that his voice is annoying, i really just can’t understand what you need to hear when a n-gga is singing. the fact that his voice isn’t silky smooth and it’s raspy like that makes it so much more soulful to me
favorite song (feat. childish gambino)
now…as you guys have read, this isn’t my favorite song…but that doesn’t mean it’s not a d-mn good song. although i do like bino’s verse, i do think it could be better. it’s not so unfavorable to the point where i skip the song because of it tho
nana (feat. action bronson)
to be completely honest, i liked this song better when ab wasn’t on it. i think it actually been better with childish or even brandon on it. i’m still not all the way into action bronson, but i can still get with the verse every not and then
on the other hand, chance’s part was golden anyway. i think this is the song that made me think that his weird -ss flow was a good thing when i saw the video. chance is weird, but it’s cool with me. i’m just as weird if not weirder, i’m sure
smoke again (feat. ab-soul)
i don’t understand why alot of people have such a problem with ab-soul’s verse. i thought it was a cool verse. another thing that i’m don’t have the problem with is the beat. regardless of other attempts, chance’s delivery on a “trap” beat has not decreased from any soulful j.dilla sample
acid rain
with all of these fun -ss zan worthy -ss songs, i almost forgot how serious that chance could get, but acid rain is a perfect reminder. i believe that the only way to appreciate this song more is when you’ve had an epiphany…and although i’m not around the same amount of violence as chance is, i still can understand what loosing those who are close to you feel like
not only does it bring you a more serious and vulnerable chance, it’s just refreshing to feel something for the artist. you’re hoping that chance is feeling ok, and if you’re going through something similar, you’re glad that chance can give you a soundtrack to your resolve
chain smoker
i hope i wasn’t the only one that was struggling to rap-a-long that first verse. chance’s hook are a extraordinary, i should’ve noticed this way earlier in the mixtape how addicting his hooks are, but chain smoker is something critical. excellent production by the way, and chance can you get nate to show us at how he did that o_o i love your sh-t
everything’s good (good -ss outro)
the name speaks for it’s self. this song is outro worthy and a great transition so the whole project to meet it’s repentance. it is also kind of refreshing to hear a developed relationship with a rapper’s dad
i love those chords, i love chance’s “uhhhh”, i love the tone of the mixtape, and i love the mixtape period. everything’s great
