[verse 1]
i got here back in ninety-three with my family, son
abandoned my famish place of birth for this lovely one
and even though we were still poor, it was milestones
i’ve had at the rural lands we left in that timezone
the son of two mexican coffee growers who did all that they could to push this family forward
from my mom, taking care of kids that weren’t hers
to scrubbing up toilets to put money in her purse
and i used to go to work with her cos i was able to watch my favorite cartoon shows cos they had cable
a happy little kid, unaware of the situation cos his mom did a great job of hiding the frustration
and my pops, still works construction to this day
dry wall and brick laying, my boy, there ain’t no shame
but sometimes due to the weather, my pops couldn’t get paid cos he couldn’t go to work on those cloudy days that it rained
let’s go

[verse 2]
and even though, i grew up poor (humble roots)
i was blessed by a mother that no money could afford
and at times my mom was jobless, but still she found a way
making tamales and selling them on irolo and 8th
i was mad at the world, always felt like it owed me something
cos the resources available to me were close to nothing
i spent most of my childhood and teenage years playing catch up with the cognitive abilities sorting short in the cl-ssroom
better off kids with no distractions and i thought if i had what they had i’d reach satisfaction
always felt like my environment was lacking some essential
nurturing required for me to reach my potential
little kid lost in life, lacking clarity ’til hip-hop came along and it gave me an ident-ty
vividly, wrote down the stories that i was living, g
imagery, the writer and this pen worked in symphony
