“crono:
hey-wait!

marle:
s-stop it! stop this at once!!

chancellor:
idiots! detain him!!!

marle:
crono!!!

(int. courtroom)

judge:
order! order!

judge:
chancellor! your opening statement

chancellor:
thank you, your honor

this villain, crono, kidnapped the princess;
a vile scheme to seize the crown
will it be prison or execution?
how shall we cut him down?
judge:
very well, let us hear from the defense!

pierre:
my dearest jury, now i implore thee
my client is an honest man
there was no scheming, nor an abduction
they met by happenstance

furthermore, princess nadia asked crono if she could join him!

audience & jury:

judge:
order! order!
is this true? who actually started this mess?

crono:
well, i mean, she bumped into – i mean, technically i moved too close to her and-

chancellor:
just as i suspected!

so our defendant tried to get near her;
contrived to lure her to the show
pierre:
objection!

chancellor:
don’t you agree that he must have seized her?

pierre:
objection!

chancellor:
i’ll tell you why that’s so

crono:
but-but-

chancellor:
i have facts that throw the defendant’s character into question!

audience & jury:

pierre:
i can’t possibly see how this is relevant!

chancellor:
au contraire, crono’s character is at the very heart of the case!
judge:
overruled!

pierre:
well then… we have nothing to hide!
in fact, we have a witness!
tell us about your cat, dear

little girl:
my little kitty
i love him dearly
we play together
most ev’ry day, and-

pierre:
what happened then?

little girl:
then he went missing
and i was crying
but then my kitty
was rescued by this man

pierre:
thank you, my dear
this man deserves a medal!

chancellor:
so he saved one cat; i have proof that this man is a low-down criminal!

crono:
what!?!

chancellor:
bring forth the witness!

old man:
the other day, i put down my sandwich
and this man ate it up!

chancellor:
has he no heart?!

crono
what? no, that’s not what-

old man:
with no remorse, as if it were planned-

chancellor:
he stole a meal from this old man!

old man:
i’m not that old, actually…

chancellor:
a true reprobate and villain!

pierre:
so, he stole a sandwich – that’s hardly a motive!

members of the court
a sandwich is nothing
not compared with livelihood
do show some mercy please
what motives can you see?
my friends, this man is good!

chancellor:
what motive? his insatiable greed-

crono:
my what!?

chancellor:
his greed is undeniable! witness!

young woman:
there at the fairground
he took her pendant
and of the princess
he had no clue

chancellor:
so he ignored her?

young woman:
well, then he helped her

chancellor:
that’s not important

young woman:
but still it’s true!

chancellor:
no more questions, your honor!

and now a witness
who heard the princess
protest her treatment

candy seller:
oh yes, i heard her –
he seemed quite shifty
and was impatient-

chancellor:
that’s when he grabbed her?

candy seller:
yes!
that’s what i said!

chancellor:
so clearly we see crono’s true colors
he plots and he schemes, time and time again
maneuvering the princess –
all for his own gain!
now we turn to you, lady justice
and you, her servants
can we entrust you
to charge his sentence?
make your decision now

judge:
i’ve heard enough. make your closing statements

chancellor:
the evidence you’ve seen put against him
should help you choose what’s right

pierre:
crono did naught but aid our dear princess
make the right call tonight

judge:
very well. members of the jury, you have heard the testimony of these witnesses. now is the time to make your decision

guilty on the left, innocent on the right. now, choose!

court clerk:
a verdict has been reached

crono:
phew

chancellor:
what?!?!
