[intro]

“right. uh, wednesday, may 2nd 2018.”

[verse 1]

last january, started working for you
workplace nice looking and new
but too shy to socialise
understood people when i -n-lyse
what they were like and how they acted
whilst working to keep myself distracted
while the work itself was rather mundane
it kept me from going insane
during my time, i met some nice people
helping me stand tall like a steeple
gave me a monetary gain
even if the school kids were a pain
i wouldn’t have it any other way
looking forward to the next work day
effort from the staff was rather pretty
some of the residents still have my pity

but alas, fate can be cruel
taking us all for fools
you can imagine how gutted
i felt when all of a sudden
i got word from the higher ups
that they’re gonna have the place shut
due to financial problems
oh, how the mighty have fallen
but now i finally realise
that i can’t stay, as much as i-
would love to, but i gotta stay strong
i won’t be staying for long
it hurts, but what can i do?
once the place’s legacy is through
we’ll have to cut away like coupons
otherwise, we’ll never move on
[break – guitar by alphonse beats]

[verse 2]

i wanna thank you for the memories
lovely faces, no enemies
another resident, another challenger
keeping the ship afloat, no manager
you’re nice people, i’m being honest
never forget; that’s my promise
leaving leaves a massive impact
i know some of us keep in contact
but it won’t be the same
as seeing your faces with your names
aiming for assistance
despite all the distance
some staying behind after dark
not satisfied ’till the residents are
and it hurts my heart so
that i’ve gotta leave just to grow

with this little empire
i would come back when i retire
but that’ll be so d-mn long;
by the time i’m back, you’ll be gone
i wish things didn’t end this way
’cause to me, work was just like play
but in the end, all i am is glad
for the memories, both good and bad
so before i leave
and give myself more room to breathe
and things hopefully get better
and before i sign off this letter
i wanna say thank you all
my last year working here was a ball!
and as i put down this pen
i hope we see each other again
[outro – over break]

“sincerely, jack. yeah. yeah.”
