early life

ian lemmy has a colorful career in different clubs at different times in his life. though the first chapter of his career was not that much colorful. after moving to stockport, lemmy united with a local band named the rainmakers. after a few time, he joined the motown sect who were playing in the northern clubs for three years. he joined the rockin’ vicars and released three consecutive singles and toured europe. soon the band moved the manchester, where the bandmate shared a flat together

in 1967, lemmy left the rockin’ vicars and moved to london. there he shared a flat with the noel redding, the b-ssist of the band jimi hendrix experience. he was appointed as the roadie of the band. in 1968, he joined the rock band sam gopal and recorded the album “escalator” which got released in 1969. he met famous drummer simon king at a shopping mall in chelsea at 1969 and joined the band opal b-tterfly. however, the band soon disbanded due to failure with their singles

lemmy joined the sp-ce rock band hawkwind, a ladbroke grove, london based band in 1971 as a vocalist and b-ssist. though he has no experience in b-ss guitar, he quickly developed a distinctive style. his b-ss work became a fundamental part of hawkwind sound during the tenure. he played the role of lead vocal on several songs including the band’s biggest hit in uk chart single, the “silver machine” which reaches in top 3 at 1972. lemmy was arrested at the united state and canada border in windsor, ontario on a charge of drug possession. he was in jail for five days though soon released without any charge. but this event put a huge impact on his career. he was fired from the band hawkwind

after getting fired from the hawkwind, lemmy formed his own band “b-st-rd” along with guitarist larry wallis who was a former member of the oink fairies and ufo. however, soon he realized that the band with a name “b-st-rd” will never get a slot on top of the pops. this realization makes him change the name of the band to motorhead. it was the t-tle of a song that he had written for the previous band hawkwind. after a few days of the formation of the band, guitarist wallis and drummer fox were replaced with drummer phil “philthy animal” taylor and guitarist “fast” edie clarke. with this line-up, the band started getting success
