what to be thankful for on this day
every year, it’s more of a challenge to think of something in a different way
our thanksgiving comes at the season of fall
the season where the trees let go of little leaves, even though they still stand tall
maybe it’s a break and to change my thinking
not just another day for such intense drinking
it’s not to boast, it’s not to compare
but it’s to connect with others and have freedom in the air
what i’m thankful for, i have an idea
but when i hear others talk and share, that changes all slightly
is it about the pluses or minuses? or maybe just letting that go?
maybe living in this moment? and seeing in a different way how it could grow
i’m thankful that i don’t have to be defined by the past
to move forward, enjoy this time, and have a blast
to not be tied down for exact traditions
to reinvent. and not to be terrified for superstitions
maybe the turkey will be in the oven
maybe you’ll just be kfc instead
maybe you’ll deep fry it outside in a big container
but maybe protect your head
spend some time outside and enjoy the sound
of the wind and the yellow and brown leaves as they hit the ground
it’s to find a reason to be thankful for, even though you think life has shut that door
you can still find it in you and me
