the creed to be the free
written by dimitri d. kwenda

intro:
i don’t live in an escapist haven
and don’t claim a pretentious h-ll
i’ll step into the poor’s footprint
for i could never ignore what’s happening…

verse 1:

i live fairly much better than the average zimbabwean
we couldn’t compare the weather in the cl-ss i’m in
but i’m born to parents who know true poverty
so in my upbringing they kept me from sn0bbery
we visited family from all walks of life
and i was taught never to ignore the poor in their strife
when the poor are the majority, a onetime priority
their scattering to the back seat after elections is an atrocity
the priority of politics if plundered in promises
the problem with artists is no exercising infotainment
i believe i am the fine line between real life and publicity
for i can see the antiquity discrepancies of iniquity
the mirage of the pedantic, a façade for the practised
a collage of mismanaged inner war of the avarice…
and censorship is a humbling chain for the m-sses

bridge 1:

suffer in silence
flee from defiance
enter the tyrants
evil will triumph

we won’t let up! – no we won’t (x3) (ohx3)
the creed to be the free!

verse 2:

what am i looking for? fame and comfort?
to feign being champion for justice against corruption?
to rile up the people into a frenzy of unrest
and undress politicians for the oppressed?
put you to task, for all new unseen, uncut
uncensored expose for people unsung!
i don’t vote for my voice is a poignant opinion
it’s a time bomb ticking for ineffective parliament
occupying const-tuents becoming so truant
their duties incongruent with hopes in the sewers
i need access to facts on the trail of my taxes
being p-ssive is madness, political malpractice
your duty is to me, so include me duly
not screw me and prove me a groupie of your foolery!

bridge 2:
no! – can’t let you run down the city we were born, sound the alarm!
no! – young blood running in the veins of a revolution!

i don’t get i, i did it so legitimate
got my education but then i’m still hustling
i got the merit, never got the credit
government is censorship to anyone expressing it…..

chorus:
stand up, wake up, claim yours!
claim yours (x4)

verse 3:

you don’t get it!
why we put subliminal messages
in sentences to rally m-ss sentiment!
how about i pounce on censorship, cio monitoring?
radio remote control of all communications
intimidation, outrageous why it isn’t ok
to explain how we feel to the press everyday!
the cliché is to obey and pray for change
and refrain from saying what is plain insane, hey!
what have you proved so different from colonial masters?
you’ve made a ransom of freedom, disaster!
i want to be proud of being black and african
not be secluded to the plough of a mild agrarian
to send me to labour as if you’re doing me a favour
empower to power to devour until your last hour
(scour) the tower with growls to cower
behind the foul enamel of the militant pariah!

bridge 2:

no! – can’t let you run down the city we were born, sound the alarm!
no! – young blood running in the veins of a revolution!

i don’t get i, i did it so legitimate
got my education but then i’m still hustling
i got the merit, never got the credit
government is censorship to anyone expressing it…..

chorus:

stand up, wake up, claim yours!
claim yours! (x4)
