one of them sent a beam of light wrapped in a box of photons with waves shaped like a bow and a wavelength that says “happy birthday.” he wraps his warm, dimming arms around me and whispers, “it’s nice to finally meet you.”

you think your friends travel far to see you? this light beam buddy of mine just said knock knock on my doorstep 147 trillion miles from home. he went through a type of darkness only heaven knows to see me, and he’s not even sure if he’s a wave or a particle. 25 light years away

that’s right. we share a birthday

ha. see 25 years ago i was in a sp-ceship on a collision course with this foreign planet, while starship command a.k.a. “mom” yanked and pushed and moved heaven and earth to get this kid with a head the size of a small moon to somehow fit through a wormhole ripped in sp-cetime. as she fought to get a soon-to-be alien-looking child she would name after a cheese out of her, 2 atoms kissed on a star 147 trillion miles away, sparks flew, and the resulting fire sent a burst of light on a 25 year journey through the dark. tonight, we meet
