letra de meridian afterburn - chris connelly

the old west shines demise
on prairies’ goodbyes,‌
levitates the twilight sand, won’t clean my hand,‌
what we’ve become, a sunset gun,‌
pours beast abroad to harbor god

what desert crimes
steamed awake into the magus
blank dreams on horseback
delivered here to save us
crossed paths where cattle grind
with skeletons and herders
all in the borrowed sun

last praying thunderheads
shine fire on less grace
unbranded werewolves dream in pain
in scattered bells and shattered spells,‌
arachnids fled the watershed

our volunteers flayed alive by war of virtue
slurred speech predicts
the damage half that wants to hurt you
head west in fruitless search
of wind that carries prayer
all in the borrowed sun
constellated like birds into breathless,‌
broken names are buried here
sandstreams that the elders have left us
load their banks and disappear,‌
cry, sinking like fractured jaws to the north
to the north
to the north
to the north

torrential flies to meet you under burnt bridge
brings back the fore noon to our own
great static plains and timeless rains
leaves afterburn, then we adjourn

what desert crimes
steamed awake into the magus
blank dreams on horseback
delivered here to save us
crossed paths where cattle grind
with skeletons and herders
all in the borrowed sun
