[spoken]
this is the first record of canadian revolutionary songs, produced and performed by the canadian cultural workers’ committee. these songs arose from the struggle being waged in canada by the proletariat and the broad masses of the people under the leadership of the communist party of canada (marxist-leninist)
the first song, “here is the rose, now dance!”, tells the story of the many battles fought by the canadian communists to establish, build and defend thе party of the canadian proletariat against all the attacks of thе bourgeoisie and it’s agents; the revisionists and opportunists of all hues

[verse 1]
come listen, young comrades, a hist’ry we’ll tell
of the glorious struggle to build cpc (m-l)
oh, it is the story of how a class continues
to fight battle after battle to smash the old and build the new!

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”

[verse 2]
in the early ’60s against increasing exploitation
the people rose up to change the situation
despite revisionist betrayal of this massive upsurge
a new quality in small quantity from the movement emerged

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”
[verse 3]
they said “don’t turn off the people by making a scene
or you’ll isolate the left from the mainstream”
but we boldly shouted, “down with imperialism
down with the lackeys, down with revisionism!”

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”

[verse 4]
there were still lots of questions, but we never shied
for we had marxism-leninism, an invincible guide!
the trend of unity of marxist-leninists irresistibly spread
and defending marxism we marched ahead!

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”

[verse 5]
lib’ral leaders housed marxists in petit-bourgeois plans
they all did their best to upset our plans
but they could not stop us, nor could the state attacks
nor the jailing of comrades who dared to fight back!
[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”

[verse 6]
driven into a frenzy, the state sent agent provocateurs
into our ranks thinking to stop us for sure
but their hope for easy vic’try was just a pipe dream
as we smashed the opportunists and exposed their schemes!

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”

[verse 7]
the so-called marxist-leninists demanded dogma that’s pure
but all they could show us was a gross caricature
“safeguard our independence,” the opportunists did say
but the working class sent it back, “make the rich pay!”

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”
[verse 8]
they unfurled their yellow banner called ‘mao tse-tung thought’
and we firmly shouted that we had begot
whenever loyal to marxism we stood our ground
the three plenum of our party brought mao tse-tung thought down!

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”

[verse 9]
the road has been long but we’ve learned from our class
the proletarian revolution is a practical task
here is our banner, and here is our task:
defend the marxist-leninist party as the vanguard of the class!

[chorus]
and we won another battle, see the enemy fall!
but don’t it seem paltry and don’t it seem small?
still the enemy besets us and blocks our advance
but the times cry out, “here’s the rose, now dance!”
