there once was a boy who noticed when
many grown up women and grown men
gave much importance to extravagance and wealth
they did it to fit in he thought, “just think for yourself”

as the boy grew older, he noticed so much more
fallacies and conventions that one could not ignore
he benignly broke stereotypes just for fun
cursed for being different, he felt desperate to run

some will try to keep you silent
you’ll feel like you’ve done something wrong
but don’t lose faith in yourself
when you know you’ll do what’s right

as a man, he learned just what it meant
to think for himself and what it represents
he’d never harm another, but he learned to stay quiet
until his time had come, there was an internal riot

their judgment is biased and unforgiving
never lose faith in yourself
when you know

they’ll tear you apart to protect themselves, a battle of egos, a cognitive h-ll
we all rationalize and we don’t know why we do it
if you let their perceptions dictate your life, you’ll end up with fear, resentment, and strife
you’ll make mistakes, won’t communicate, don’t take it out on them
they don’t understand the truth
when it comes to you
subjective perception keeps them one sided
and groupthink can always leave one misguided
but we are all the same
and they are just like you
assumptions emotions and myths make it hard to see light
but the darkness can still be cleared
it’s up to you

may only care about their own self interest
never lose faith in yourself
