verse 1:
a rich businessman in an air conditioned office
a sick millionaire who hates financial inequality
those still innocent say it’s unfair to live in squalor
but he quit listening, unaware of all things foreign
he comes home from a long day to his kids and/
fiancé with some dinner, does not pray or finish it
he got paid so he bins it, in some places it’s different
you could look at someone the wrong way and it’s prison
he was born into it with his dad’s company
and been living in luxury ever since his upbringing
locked in his head and lost all his sense
although it’s been replaced with dollars and cents
it’s like a possible cause of death is a stock market crash
may as well hold a sign saying “will stop heart for cash”
if money grew on trees, they’d all be deciduous
with the idiots who refuse to see what the issue is

hook:
it’s funny how money’s a hollow white lie
we only see it now with honest hindsight
father, i’d rather have swallowed cyanide
than be blinded inside with dollar-sign eyes

verse 2:
a concerned girl, hungry in a third world country
struggles to keep on her feet like the earth turned upwards
she fights to stay alive and at work earns nothing
gets hurt, burned, cut for stuff not worth her money
she suffers from allergies in industrial factories
and she huddles with family at a slum in an alleyway
homeless and poor and ill while bony and sore and if/
she could only afford a meal, feeling lonely while taught a sk!ll/
at a sweatshop – overtime with no break and a strained bladder
maybe with brain damage, that day an arranged marriage
unable to pay for medication or gain an education
they don’t want money, they want change and better status
you treat cash like another d-mn pleasure
remember one man’s trash is another man’s treasure
you think famine is actually one of fair leisure?
will 40 hours be having you understand? never

(hook)

verse 3:
it’s true, you don’t know what you have ‘till it’s gone
but with nothing to lose, you know what you have when there’s none
you take your lives for granted while you splash in the sun
but you’re not on your knees, staring down the barrels of guns
rolling in your dollars while there’s some who live in poverty
you go to their country just to see a hippopotamus
the pit you wallow in, you’ll soon find, isn’t bottomless
you don’t accept refugees but we came from british colonies
before we know it there’ll be banks going bankrupt
and credit cards getting charged rates for your makeup
with money comes greed and with greed comes power
with power comes corruption, with these comes cowards
lawyers and politicians destroying the hollow system
employing a lot of minions to toy with and borrow millions
but we don’t have millions to borrow
to find out it’s gonna be on our tax billing tomorrow, for real
