i remember the day you read me your favorite french book
the one i helped you buy online
i had to go down through méxico st. to get it
its original owner was kind enough to sell it at such a price
the papers were thin and luxurious
the content was worthy of a cup of tea
right in the corner of the living room
you revealed to me that i was a tiger
which was confusing, to say the least
i legit thought that i was a sheep
i didn’t think of myself as confident, strong or handsome
though i did relate when you said “loyal” and “hot-headed”
you didn’t care, however, because you believed in me
“you are confident,” you insisted
“your voice doesn’t tremble when i introduce you to the most important of people
you touch and grab things precisely
you smile carelessly
and you don’t hesitate when i ask you for help.”
i grinned because i knew there was some truth behind
“don’t you dare to say you’re not strong,” you laughed
“you hold my wheelchair everyday like a gentleman
and took me to every corner of this city
never minding its broken sidewalks and impoliteness.”
i never thought of strength like that
so i saved your words in the back of my mind to -n-lyze later and let you keep talking
“not handsome!” you exclaimed angrily
“tall like this building
hair like waves of golden threads
hands of a chevalier.”
you paused and smiled at me because you knew it was a difficult topic
since then, i try to live as a tiger
