letra de 1918 pt 2: pow (prisoner of war) - 1914
we were housed in simple tents
a single cover, our only shield
in mines and fields, we toiled away
hands worn raw, roads we built
on asinara’s rocky shore
in sardinia’s heat
under the guard’s unyielding whip
we labored hard, with no respite
blood stops flowing to your fingers and toes
hard stone we broke, by the iron law
we died of the spanish flu and other disease:
malaria and typhoid fever
in sicily’s scorched plains
in cassinos camps
this must be the last war we fight for many years to come
this must be the last war, or we will be the last ones
i must survive at any price
i wish i could convey it all
the h-llish sights, the anguished cries
a burden carried deep inside
a haunting shadow in the night
this must be the last war we fight for many years to come
this must be the last war, or we will be the last ones
