she wants someone else’s skin instead
she’s in that cocoon phase
she’s in a weird place
and you wouldn’t know it from the naked eye
from the outside everything looks fine
but you’re watching her exist
from inside a chrysalis
staying dormant through the wintertime
larval at a high point in her life

he don’t wanna go out and have no fun
he just stays inside and cleans his guns
preppin’ for doomsday
you know, just in case
b00bs and bullets and firedogs
and 4×4’s litter his blog
he calls it “the land of the free”
he wants the president impeached
staying dormant through the summertime
happy at a low point in his life

what do they have in common? not much at all
but i put them together so that they won’t be forgot

he says he’s married to his job
she’s in love with all her songs
but think about next spring
and how different things could be
when asked if she has a beau
she says “does netflix count?
well, i guess so”
she’s lonely some of the time
but that’s a cocoon by design
staying dormant ’til they reach their prime
but they just stay at home because it’s not time
what do they have in common? not much at all
but i put them together so that they won’t be forgot
because i’m staying dormant until it’s time to write
trying to make some sense of human kind
then i put it out so i can sleep at night
accepting that this is my lot in life
