they told a lie. a lie that broke through the sky and cracked as lightening the moment the deception was put to voice

they told a lie, a lie felt so deeply it was the chill first felt by your spine, until it’s desires became an unrelenting p-ssion that set its eyes on your heart

because they told a lie, i swear they did. a lie they shoved down your throat so violently that for the sake of your mere survival you swallowed it, and now it lives in your stomach’s pit, devouring everything that enters it

they tell you, a lie
everyday you wake, you wait until you can return to sleep, because your dreams are the only place where you find peace. these dreams remind you that you were born with wings. you were born in the skies. they can take everything, anything, but they can never take your wings away. everyday you wake, they lie

and you just want to wear your wings with pride. but, each day they take a feather away, so each day you lose a dream, until one day you forget how to fly

everyday you wake, you begin to feel the claws on your back, slowly being dragged across your skin until you can’t feel the wounds when they sink in. better to be numb. better to live absent emotion, because to feel would expose how deep the wounds are. so why would you heal them today, when tomorrow they’ll scar?

everyday you wake, your skin begins to grey. you watch yourself whither, watching as they peel the flesh away, until what’s left is your bones. and you feel grateful they even left you those

everyday you wake, you try to fill the emptiness of your loneliness, breaking your own ribs to make room for the stones they throw. if you swallow enough, maybe you’ll finally feel whole. maybe if you fill these gallows with enough stones you’ll finally stack them high enough to escape
everyday you wake
and everyday they take and they take and they take
and everyday you think there’s nothing left they take away, but everyday they find a way

you couldn’t imagine a worse h-ll than when they ripped love from your skeleton, leaving you to decay, until you’ve been taught you how to hate

everyday you wake

so, everyday there’s never enough mirrors to break. loathing what the mirror’s reflection has to say. and those voices evolve into whispers, and those whispers force their fingerprints in your veins. and compromise the blood. and you’re too terrified to wash the stain out before it dries up

so, they build a mansion in your mind. and you fill those rooms with self genocide. you fill those rooms with the disgust of your ambitions, keeping your potential dormant within, and giving yourself permission to bathe in depression, because maybe then, you can drown in the flood

everyday you wake. and every moment you live, you wish to die. until the gnawing stops becoming just temptation. so, tonight, you want to take her to your bed. tonight, you want to know how she tastes. tonight, you want to know how it feels to no longer have to feel

everyday you wake
i pray to god you find the strength to stay. i pray to god you remember your wings. i pray. because they told you lie. i promise you they did

don’t you give them your heart. they don’t deserve it. they didn’t earn it. so never give them the power to pervert it
don’t sell yourself off by the price they put on your head
your worth is boundless. your worth is the universe. your worth has no end
i swear to you, i swear to you
they told you a lie
i swear, they told you a lie
i swear they did

everyday you wake
i know you feel like you couldn’t hate anything deeper than how you hate them. but, hate is a darkness, so don’t let it paint shadows in your name. don’t let your light turn to shade. because, they didn’t teach you how to hate, they just showed you what hate is. they didn’t teach you how to hate, they just showed you what hate is

everyday you wake, i’m begging you, don’t forget how to smile, because it’s going to take long enough to remember how to laugh
but i hope you remember hope
and every step forward is a step they told you, you couldn’t take
they told you, your feet were broken, they said they snapped the bones of your limbs
so i pray you run in defiance. i pray they are never given the satisfaction
they couldn’t keep you, they couldn’t hurt you enough.you wouldn’t let them infect you with their bad blood
they couldn’t break you. the cracks they left in your bones, wouldn’t shape you
because brokenness is not hopelessness
so, make them witness you push the poison out. don’t let the venom sink in. don’t let it coat your skin. don’t let the disease seep into the wounds
and i know, your wounds became scars
and you relive the pain every time you see how deep they are
but these scars aren’t the story of a victim, they tell the tale of a survivor. they tell the story of a rebel leading a rebellion

so, everyday you wake, i pray you keep that fire in your eyes burning, just a little longer. don’t let the flames die out just yet

because, they told you a lie. how dare they tell you a lie
when they said they saw you as ugly, they showed their ugliness
and one day i promise, you’ll be the proof there’s still beautiful left

every day you wake, i want you to feel loved. i want you to be wrapped in it so tight, it’s forced deep in your lungs

every day you wake, i want you to see you the way i see you
endless beauty, left empty, to be filled with whatever joys you desire. i want you to squeeze every drop out of life until it’s dry
because, you are worth every bit of every drop

so, i pray you know how radiant you are. i pray you believe it the way i do. i pray you know you’re not forgotten. i pray you remember your wings. with all my heart i pray you know you are loved, and you know what love is capable of

so, tell yourself you’re incredible
tell yourself you’re amazing
tell yourself you’re beautiful, because you are a beauty to behold

because, they told you a lie. i swear they told you a lie

so, tell yourself you’re incredible
tell yourself you’re amazing
tell yourself you’re beautiful
tell yourself you’re marvelous, because you are something to marvel at

they told you a lie. i promise they told you a lie
i promise they told you a lie

so, tell yourself you’re incredible
tell yourself you’re beautiful
tell yourself you’re amazing, because you leave me amazed

so as you finally rise, wipe your eyes dry, and roar into the heavens until the thunder echoes and the clouds cry
give me back my freedom! i demand to be free!
give me back my freedom! i was born to be free!
give me back my freedom!

and i pray you remember your wings
i pray you remember how to fly

i pray that you believe it the way i do, that your freedom is worth the fight

so, tell yourself you’re incredible
tell yourself you’re amazing
tell yourself you’re beautiful

tell yourself you’re amazing
tell yourself you’re beautiful

every day that you wake
