2. so i sat with my paper and pen in my hand
i was tossing out ideas trying to come up with a plan
so i kept right on a thanking about grits and collard greens
i’m just a country boy, i’ve never heard of such an thing

but when i read those recipes i wanted dome for sure
a friend of mine suggested i need to write a song
so grits and collard green is how this song came along.

3. so when i got my thoughts together, i wrote me out a plan
of just how to cook this meal to make you shake my hand
you just take you out a frying pan and good size boiling pot
add you cup of grits and big bowl of ham hocks.

4. now that i have wrote this song i think it safe to say
i love my boiled grits wit a pan of seasoned greens
my granny now cooks them oh boy what a meal
grits and collard greens we still have them now and then
